He can explain your treatment options in a way that is easy-to-understand and answer all your questions.
Preserving your oral health for life
Dr. Malin is interested in both your immediate concerns and what will be in your best interests for your long-term oral health. His goal is to help you keep your dental implants and new teeth for life.
You will be greeted by one of our friendly staff who will help you fill out your initial paperwork. You will then be given a full tour of our office so you can feel at home and comfortable. When the tour is complete, we will take you to your consultation room, where Dr. Malin’s assistant will discuss your goals and concerns with you. Dr. Malin will then see you and ask you further questions so he can get a complete understanding of your situation and what you wish to achieve.
Your New Patient Exam
Dr. Malin will conduct a comprehensive diagnostic exam using the latest technology. This allows him to be accurate in his assessments and gives him the ability to plan every step of your treatment for the most comfortable and stable result.
We take full digital X-rays of your teeth and jaw using high-technology portable machines. Our digital X-ray devices emit about 80% less radiation than traditional X-rays, and the images are immediately available for viewing.
We may also take a digital panoramic X-ray of your entire mouth. Panoramic X-rays display all your teeth in one large image and give Dr. Malin a more comprehensive view.
Cone beam 3D CT scan
When needed—for example when your treatment will involve dental implants—Dr. Malin will use our state-of-the-art cone beam 3D CT scanner to obtain 3D 360-degree views of your jawbone, teeth and surrounding structures. These images can be magnified and viewed from any angle. This allows him to accurately diagnose the condition of your oral health and bone levels without having to use invasive exploratory surgery. From this information he can precisely plan your dental implant treatment and any bone grafting that may be required.
Comprehensive oral exam
Dr. Malin conducts a very thorough oral examination in which he inspects the state of your teeth, gums, bite alignment and jaw joint function. He will check any dental restorations to see what condition they are in, and will have our hygienist gently probe the depth of the gum pockets around each of your teeth to determine if there is any gum disease and how far it has progressed.
Advanced jaw and bite analysis
When muscle or joint pain is discovered in connection with your jaw motion or bite alignment, Dr. Malin will perform a thorough analysis of the forces that are causing your discomfort using an advanced diagnostic apparatus known as the K7 Evaluation System.
The K7 instruments measure and record jaw motion, jaw joint function, muscle strain and bite alignment forces. Dr. Malin will use this diagnostic information to plan your treatment to establish a proper bite relationship.
Diagnosing and correcting bite misalignment is known as neuromuscular dentistry, and Dr. Malin makes this a key part of his dental implant and full-mouth reconstruction treatment. When your bite is properly aligned, your jaw muscles can move freely and comfortably, and your implants and restorations will not be subject to unusual forces that could destabilize them or cause them to wear over time.
Exam results and treatment plan
Dr. Malin will go over your exam results with you and explain your treatment options in detail. If his recommendations include dental implant treatment, he will show you a number of models which demonstrate exactly how implants work and how your new replacement teeth will look and function. He will make sure that all your questions are answered so you can make a well-informed decision about your treatment.
